Clinical Research

At the , scientists link lab bench to bedside, conducting clinical research that would be difficult to carry out anywhere else. The hospital is a key component of the university’s Center for Clinical and Translational Science, serving as a focal point of translational research on campus.

The CCTS is supported in part by an NIH NCATS Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA.)

Clinical Research Studies

Opportunities to participate in clinical trials are available to both healthy volunteers and people with specific diseases under study. Patients and volunteers who consent to participate in research studies are treated without charge and have the opportunity to contribute to important advances in medical science.

Historical Discoveries

The celebrated its 100 year anniversary in 2010, reflecting back on a rich history of innovation and discovery. Some of the major contributions it has made to medicine include the development of the oxygen chamber, methods for blood storage and transfusion, methadone therapy, and multiple-drug treatment of HIV infection.
